Purpose and meaning of applying visual effects
In filmmaking, visual effects (abbreviated VFX) are the processes by which imagery is created and / or manipulated outside the context of a live action shot.
Visual effects involve the integration of live-action footage and generated imagery to create environments which look realistic, but would be dangerous, expensive, impractical, or simply impossible to capture on film. Visual effects using computer generated imagery have recently become accessible to the independent filmmaker with the introduction of affordable and easy-to-use animation and compositing software.
Visual effects are often integral to a movie's story and appeal. Although most visual effects work is completed during post-production, it usually must be carefully planned and choreographed in pre-production and production. Visual effects primarily executed in Post-Production with the use of multiple tools and technologies such as graphic design, modeling, animation and similar software, while special effects such as explosions and car chases are made on set.
For some of the part in this video, there was a lot of part which is not important and take a long time to play. For saving the time I speed up some parts of the videos.
There are a lot of choice of effect for me to use to make the video much more interesting.
First of all, I put a Dip to black between shot 3 and 4.This would allow the actor's eye look through little window become darker and darker till whole black to the screen. This would give my video much more mysterious feeling and little bit more " scary ".
And then I added a slide effect between this two part, the reason I do this is because the location has been changed (from the inside of the building to the outside of the building). This would make the video more interesting and help viewer understand the change of location and part.
Finally, there are a lot of communication in the video and my crew was talking in Chinese, therefore,it's important to put the sub-title as an international movie.
First of all,I choose white color because for most of movies, they used white as the color for the sub-tible.It would stand out from the background. Secondly for the size of the text I choose 120 to allow people can read it.Finally for the position of these text,I decided to put them at the bottom of the video image and the grid would help me to put the every sub title at the same lane.
