P5 Certification Classification Based on Feedback Final Film
Meaning and Purpose: Classifying a film according to familiar codes is important because it lets audiences know whether or not they should be watching something. I wouldn’t want anyone to view my films if they would be too disturbed or offended by them.
The rating of 12 is usually reserved for films that are especially bloody or violent. Although that is not present in my film, there are no redeeming qualities. It is not like the violence or the creeping are afterthoughts of a larger story, they are the entire story. The characters are consumed with lust and observing others. They are not shown doing anything else, for the most part. Because of this, the movie is psychologically very disturbing. Even the man saving the woman from violence in the end is only there because he has been following her with a camera. Saving her only adds to the uneasiness the audience feels watching this. Therefore, everyone encouraged an 12 rating and I agree.
I decided to 12 level for my video.
Certification classification rates films in terms of age appropriateness, to make sure people see the right films for them.
The role they play is very important, as they provide ratings for every single commercially sold movie. The public trusts these ratings and decide wether the movie is fit for viewing. This is the main way that children are prevented from watching violent movies. However this does not prevent them completely, as these are mere guidelines, and media players cannot detect the age of the person viewing the movie. The implications of an incorrectly classified film can be very dramatic. It can have a huge impact on the final revenue of the movie, as too high of a rating will stop it from reaching a large audience.
I set up some questions by google docs and send to my classroom mates to answer it.
These results above showed that this video is not suitable for the children who is too young and when they watch this,it's better they can watch it with their parents and guardians.
According to this result,Looking at the pie chart, I can see that the majority of people think this film deserves a 12 rating. This goes against my original plan of a 15 rating. Therefore, I would like to request for a 12 Certification classification.
P4 Focus Group Screening & Feedback
Meaning and Purpose: Classification codes are used to make sure that no audience is exposed to an inappropriate film based on their age. The BBFC provides and controls these codes before they are released to the public and judges them based on the content in the film. The following list shows the potential codes and what they mean.
U is for “universal,” and it means that virtually anyone can view the content in this film.
PG is for “parental guidance,” and it means that parents should watch the film with their children to ensure that if they don’t want their children to see something, they can remove them.
12 and 12A are films made for children 12 and over. This takes some of the control away from parents by determining that children under 12 are definitely too young to view the content. There are similar ratings for people aged 15 and over and 18 and over.
Some of the distinguishing factors for each of these are the level of strong language, violence, sexual activity, drug use, blood and gore, sexual violence, and discriminatory behaviour. The more these are used, the higher the rating gets.
R18 rating means the movie can only be viewed by those 18 and older, and only in “restricted” settings. These settings have to have specific licenses to show these films and have to ensure their audience is older than 18.
Audience Feedback:
After the cast and crew watched the film, everyone was very excited to see how the work we had done turned out. There was some criticism that was passed because everyone had different visions in their minds even though I was ultimately in charge of editing. The feedback included the suggested rating of 12. The entire film is centered around content intended for adults, from smoking to obsessing over women to following women and even attacking them. Although the film has a potentially happy ending if the woman is saved, and even though much of the violence is more implied than it is actually shown, the fact that the entire film shows some sort of disturbing footage and nothing else might give younger minds the idea that these kinds of thoughts and behaviours can be completely consuming. There is a suggestion of violence although there was no present violence.
P3(d) Linking Audio to Visuals and Applying Audio Effects
Meaning and Purpose: Sound plays an important role in any film. It helps set the tone, provides ambience, setting and mood. At the beginning, the music I chose was creepy and foreboding. It gets happier when the man and woman are out walking on the street, and then it cuts out altogether when things get very serious and the woman is attacked. This final choice allows all of the focus to be on the attack and whether or not the man who has been watching the woman will step up and save her.
In this screen shot, I have begun uploading the music I will play over the scenes. I deleted the original audio from the camera footage, as this is not needed in the final project. I then play the music over the video.
I also played with the volume of the music overlay. As scenes would fade to black when a location change was occurring, the music would fade in volume to match the play out. I added keyframes to the video and audio to do this in a synchronised and controlled way.
Background music was also an issue I had to resolve as I wanted to add this to create a more 'dramatic effect' through some of my clips, where it was supposed to be the little bit of scary. To do this, I decided to play something on the pure music which I could find and include in my film.
I used the internet to help me find and download the basic music for this short film.It was a pure music and with mysterious feeling.I found this music is very suitable for my video.
This is the timeline.I muted the original sound of part of the video which there was no communication at all and it showed in Audio 1.However for the people's talking I would like view to hear that, therefore I put is in Audio 2 and in Audio 3,it is the background music that I found.
P3(c) Applying Visual Effects and Transitions
Purpose and meaning of applying visual effects
In filmmaking, visual effects (abbreviated VFX) are the processes by which imagery is created and / or manipulated outside the context of a live action shot.
Visual effects involve the integration of live-action footage and generated imagery to create environments which look realistic, but would be dangerous, expensive, impractical, or simply impossible to capture on film. Visual effects using computer generated imagery have recently become accessible to the independent filmmaker with the introduction of affordable and easy-to-use animation and compositing software.
Visual effects are often integral to a movie's story and appeal. Although most visual effects work is completed during post-production, it usually must be carefully planned and choreographed in pre-production and production. Visual effects primarily executed in Post-Production with the use of multiple tools and technologies such as graphic design, modeling, animation and similar software, while special effects such as explosions and car chases are made on set.
For some of the part in this video, there was a lot of part which is not important and take a long time to play. For saving the time I speed up some parts of the videos.
There are a lot of choice of effect for me to use to make the video much more interesting.
First of all, I put a Dip to black between shot 3 and 4.This would allow the actor's eye look through little window become darker and darker till whole black to the screen. This would give my video much more mysterious feeling and little bit more " scary ".
And then I added a slide effect between this two part, the reason I do this is because the location has been changed (from the inside of the building to the outside of the building). This would make the video more interesting and help viewer understand the change of location and part.
Finally, there are a lot of communication in the video and my crew was talking in Chinese, therefore,it's important to put the sub-title as an international movie.
First of all,I choose white color because for most of movies, they used white as the color for the sub-tible.It would stand out from the background. Secondly for the size of the text I choose 120 to allow people can read it.Finally for the position of these text,I decided to put them at the bottom of the video image and the grid would help me to put the every sub title at the same lane.
P3(b) Producing and Reviewing an Off Line Edit
Adobe premiere Pro is a timeline-based video editing software application. It is part of the Adobe Creative Cloud, which includes video editing, graphic design, and web development programs.
I created a new sequence with 1080p24* quality and made sure the capture format is HDV*.
1080p24*
- 1080p means the quality of the video would come out and export as 1080p high definition video.
- 24 means 24 frames per second.
HDV*
HDV is a format for recording of high-definition video on DV cassette tape.
At the left hand of Adobe premiere Pro,these are all the videos which I have imported already.I imported all the selected and renamed videos from the folder where I save my music video.
At the top part, this is the tool sets. The first tool is called selected tool, which allows me to import and select my videos. The 6th tool is called razor tool,it would allow me to cut down the video and change the length of the videos. The second last tool is called hand tool,it allows me to drag and move the videos on the track.
Here is another screenshot demonstrating the timeline I put together for my edit. I assembled this timeline using the clips I imported from the card we filmed with. This was put together by selecting each clip that I wanted, then dragging it onto the timeline and editing it into place. This involved a lot of cutting and moving around, to ensure the timing of the film worked out accordingly. To construct meaning in my timeline, I used a couple of techniques to create the effect I wanted from my film. Montage themed scenes was a fairly dominant subject in my film, therefore in order to create these montages, it meant I had to include a lot of clips and cut them down fairly short. As shown in the screenshot above, I included a lot of short clips within my timeline. This was to create the montage meaning to demonstrate to viewers a variety of shots within the same scene, to show different within the montage of 'what could've happened.'
